Puma is an international company that produces sports shoes as well as other sports equipment. The company is based in Germany, and founded by Rudolf Dassler. Rudolf is the older brother of Adolf Dassler, the founder of Adidas.
The company is known in the football world for being a sponsor of famous soccer players such as Pelé, Eusébio, Johan Cruijff, Enzo Francescoli, Diego Maradona, Didier Deschamps, Lothar Matthäus, and Kenny Dalglish, and Robert Pirès. In the United States, Puma is famous for its leather basketball shoes introduced in 1968.
In addition to sports shoes, Puma also produces shoes and sportswear designed by fashion designers such as Lamine Kouyate and Amy Garbers. Since 1996, Puma has increased its activities in the United States, as with the purchase of a 25% stake in Logo Athletic. In 2007, Puma became a subsidiary of PPR, a French holding company.
