Sunday morning, December 26, 2004, Banda Aceh, the tsunami was triggered by a robust 9.1-magnitude earthquake in the Indian Ocean, approximately 160 km northwest with a depth of 10 kilometers. There was a gap of about 30 minutes between the earthquake and tsunami.

Not only Indonesia (Aceh), the tsunami waves also hit Thailand, the west coast of Malaysia, Sri Lanka, India, to the east coast of Africa. Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and India were listed as the worst affected by the tsunami.

USGS estimates, this earthquake output energy equivalent to 23 thousand times the bomb dropped in Hiroshima, Japan, in 1945.

Thousands of buildings were destroyed by the earthquake and tsunami, especially in Meulaboh and Banda Aceh. Infrastructure destroyed. Most victims, however, were caused by the tsunami.

Shortly after the earthquake, animals like panic, running around. According to a number of eyewitnesses, the birds fly away from the beach.

Elsewhere, similar things have been reported. In Sri Lanka, elephants screamed and ran to the hill before the tsunami.
